Nestling in the lap of mighty Himalayas at a height of 11755 feet above sea level, Kedarnath Mandir is the most remote of the four Char Dham shrines in Uttrakhand. It remains closed in winters due to the extreme weather conditions. Even the Palki and the Utsava Murti of Kedarnath Ji are transferred to Ukhimath near Guptkashi for six months- from November to April.
Kedarnath Temple is open to the devotees from spring to autumn. The usual date of opening of the temple is Akshaya Tritiya in spring and the closing day is Kartik Purnima in autumn.
